The World According To

Robert GRESFORD Davies
Fifty years ago as the world prepared to enter the second half of the Twentieth Century,
some of us had just started to support Wrexham. A modest team with a modest ground in a
modest league - the Third Division North. Now, as we stand on the threshold of a new
millenium, we can look back on a half-century of ups and downs. The Racecourse has seen
the relegation grief and promotion celebration; our name is on the Welsh Cup; we have
taken European teams by surprise; and we are acknowledged giant-killers in the FA Cup.
The crowd is much smaller than it was 50 years ago but what we lack in numbers is more than made up for in loyalty and enthusiasm. Fanzines had not been thought of in 1949 but Red Passion is certainly an appropriate title, as the Reds arouse within us all that the word 'passion' means - enthusiasm, anger, suffering etc. So, don't give up you Reds - as you seemed so often to do last season. The sea air and travelling supporters at Blackpool will mean a fresh start. The following week the Eclipse will happen. Our hope is that there will be no eclipse of Wrexham FC!
