I protested after the Cambridge dębacle - and I’m proud!

By Tim Edwards

Well, after returning back to university following the holiday period, I must report that my beloved team haven't won a game since I left here for Christmas. I think worrying times are ahead, yet nothing is being done to strike confidence and belief into the current squad of players. Many people who read Red Passion must think I hate Brian Flynn after past articles I've written. Hate is a strong word indeed, but I do hate what he is doing to this club. Does he think he is Gianluca Vialli with his bizarre squad rotation? One minute Ian Stevens has flu, the next he is in the starting line-up. I'm not going to go on about the stand/dugout situation, but he has been here that long the seat will have to be surgically removed. I'd love a manager who could come out after games explaining his decisions and tactics.

After the recent Cambridge debâcle, I was furious along with many others. I joined a band of supporters who genuinely love the club in a protest outside the suites situated above the club shop. The obligatory "FLYNNIE OUT!!" chants were communicated with conviction rather than fury and frustration. All of those who were shouting for the manager's head at the end of the game disappeared into the night without a trace. Some of us decided action must be taken. OK, there was only about 50/60 people protesting, but I believe we were acting on behalf of the majority of fans who follow the club. I protested because enough is enough. We were made to feel small and degraded by the 'very important people' who were sneering at us through the windows above the club shop, looking at us as if we were a bunch of animals. They weren't affected though.

To some people it’s just about money, and how much of it they can get out of unsuspecting fans like ourselves. David Rhodes - he looks really innocent doesn't he? He gave a look of disgust through the ticket office window as "FLYNNIE, WHERE ARE YOU?" rang out loud and proud. He probably feared what would happen to his shiny car - he was probably more concerned about this than about how we felt the club was being run. OK, that was a little harsh but not many fans seem to like the man. His replies to letters printed in the Evening Leader's fan column infuriate me. He writes with such irony and sarcasm it is insulting. Again, Brian Flynn should answer these questions when he is not driving back and to from Burnley - and not get one of his cohorts to do it for him. Brian Flynn is not Alex Ferguson. He is simply a competent, lower-divisions manager who seems to be dragging Wrexham into the rubbish heap he rescued us from. It would also be nice if he would stop preparing for the worst when he makes his excuses in advance in the press. "We're expecting a close contest...they're on a good run at the moment...etc". Why state the obvious? Maybe we're not as football illiterate as he may think. "We were in a similar situation last year" was similar to something he said in the press regarding our current league position. Well, doesn't that tell you something, Messiahs Flynn and Griffiths? Maybe reality will kick in soon, and he might acknowledge what dire straights the club is in.  RP
