A parcel was delivered to me just before Christmas and it was very heavy. On opening it I discovered it to be The Racecourse Robins from Adams to Youds - a Who’s Who of Wrexham AFC 1921-1999 by Gareth M.Davies and Peter Jones. What a bumper Christmas present and what a labour of love extending to 426 pages. Pen and picture portraits plus vital statistics make it similar to the Guinness Book of Records - to be dipped into at any time.

This is no ordinary club teetering on the brink of promotion or relegation as the curse may be. Giant-killing feats in the FA Cup make it a name to be reckoned with in November and December each year when the remnant of faithful supporters are joined by the extended thousands of fairweather friends. As we move into a new Millennium, with a ground almost up to Premiership status, let us hope that by Wrexham’s league centenary in 2021 the Racecourse Robins will be up there and Gareth and Peter will still be around to celebrate.
