The World According To

Robert GRESFORD Davies
A recent programme on Radio 5 included an interview with a Bournemouth fan who is now the
club chairman - and still a fan! Among other things, he said: Football is much more
than a game on Saturday afternoon. You can read more about supporters
involvement at the club in a book called Cherries in the Red.
This season will probably end with under 3,000 regulars at the Racecourse - with the seating in the new stand still clean and cold for lack of bottoms. We know that the potential support for a winning team is there in this part of North Wales. We also know that if those of us who felt so sick after the Cambridge and Wycombe games kept the promise we made to ourselves, the Racecourse would soon be up for sale.
Instead of scapegoating Brian Flynn and certain players, wouldnt it be a good idea for the team and management to engage with supporters in serious dialogue. Perhaps they are making an effort when the fans think theyve gone to sleep! Perhaps they are aware of how much each supporter has paid to watch the match! Perhaps there was a pep talk at half-time even though the fans saw no evidence of it!
Yes, weve seen glimpses of glory this season but they have been short-lived. The regulars are still there through thick and thin - but increasingly frustrated. We deserve the opportunity to get closer to Robins in the Red. It would be good to talk and may ease our pain. RP
