No.11 - Preston

- Journey there? Travelled up in the car. The journey
only took an hour and after setting off early we were in Preston by 1 oclock.
- The town? A good 25-minute walk from the ground. I
was very impressed by the bus station.
- Pre-match goings-on? We had our dinner in a snack
bar at the bus station. I had a bacon toastie but it could have been better described as
bacon on soot. In the ground the majority of Wrexham fans had a really good think about
putting a pound on Karl Connolly to score the first goal and Wrexham to win 2-1 (175/1 at
Ladbrokes in the away end).
- Ground? Our stand and the stand to our right were
very impressive. The stand to our left will be developed like the other two when Preston
reach Division One - so it should be looking very good by next season.
- Admission price? £13 and £8 concessions.
- The game? McGregor let Anderson get far too many
crosses into the box and Spink was always struggling to cope with the threat of Brett
Angell. We were unlucky not to go ahead halfway through the first-half when Ferguson
flicked a cheeky free-kick into the Preston area and Rooster volleyed narrowly wide on the
turn. We hung on well until McGregor let Anderson cut inside him and his shot was
deflected beyond the reach of Kevin Dearden. That was basically game over with barely two
minutes on the clock in the second half.
- Our fans? Filled our section. Didnt make as
much noise as the Preston fans - but who can blame them?
- Their fans? Made an awful lot of noise and were
loving every minute of it. Who can blame them?
- Post-match goings-on? We tried to get out of town a
different way - and somehow avoided getting lost. It still took a long time to get onto
the M6.
Journey back? As quick as the journey there once we were on the motorway.
We arrived back minutes after the supporters coach. Daniel Jennings
