Gloriously unromantic
D.Bennie, A Season in Hell (Mainstream, 1997), £14.99
This is a fantastic book. Billed as ‘The soccerati’s state-of-the-nation fin-de-siècle guide to Scottish football league grounds’, it takes the reader on a fascinating and extremely atmospheric voyage around the most unromantic of Scottish footballing venues: Gayfield (Arbroath), Glebe Park (Brechin), Ochilview Park (Stenhousemuir), Boghead Park (Dumbarton)…and all the rest. There are brilliant stories, anecdotes and trivia about every ground. Get it! It’s very good.
