Life at the very bottom
Gary Nelson, Left Foot in the Grave (Collins Willow, Paperback, £6.99)
Now available in paperback, this is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Left Foot Forward by the former Charlton, Brighton and Plymouth striker. The story continues with Nelson's release by Charlton and follows his year as player-coach with Torquay United. Always interesting and enetrtaining, it provides a fascinating insight into the daily problems faced by the management of a cash-strapped lower-division club, as well as Nelson's personal views on the big football stories of the year.
It is a book which deserves to be read by anyone with more than a passing interest in the game, especially at the bread-and-butter end of the league.
