Reading matter for footie fans
Amazing and compelling
N.Hornby, Fever Pitch
by Rich Williams
Fever Pitch: dubbed by many as best football book ever written, and I have to agree with them. A compelling ‘drama’ if you will, about a young Arsenal supporter, (It actually includes the humiliated defeat at the hands of Wrexham) whose parents have been divorced, and he gradually gets interested and later obsessed in
football with the help of his Dad. It includes his shenanigans with bullies, because he is an Arsenal supporter, the highs and lows, the pride and arrogance
when you win, and just plainly following your team, no matter the circumstances. The book is divided into
sections of his best memories of going to Highbury, watching the World Cup, and going to his very first match. This book is by far the best I have
ever read. Hornby writes in a way that you cannot put it down once you start reading. He
describes each match amazingly, and charts his passionate affair with the great game. He explains his highs and lows whilst following Arsenal, and proclaims what being a fan really means. You can relate to
almost anything yourself, the ups and downs, dramatic escapes, tremendous triumphs, cup exits and discrimination. I advise anyone who is
passionate about football to buy this compelling, amazing book.
