Half-time heaven

Burger-king Roberts strikes again
Hopeless hot-dog

Altrincham:

Paul Hughes adds to his comments in RP21: "The Altrincham facilities were housed in a mobile cabin - and I was suspicious on approach that they would lack the treasured characteristics of a more traditional football food hut. Perceptions were confirmed: no Bovril, and although '£1 pies' were displayed on the price board there were none available on the day. Just burgers or hot dogs. I had a jumbo sausage with onions - sliced down the middle and reheated but, at £1.50, better value than at the Racecourse - even though it was pretty vile and I couldn't give away the remaining half of the sausage to an Altrincham fan."

Rhyl:

Richard Jones declared: "Although I didn't sample the RFC catering myself, it seemed well up to standard. The little lad I was standing with seemed to eat his burger with relish (not relish sauce!)"

Bury:

Paul Hughes commented: "The food hut was difficult to find, lost as it was in an intertwined maze adjacent to the toilets. I went for the traditional meat & potato pie but, as the catering assistant was retrieving my change, I spotted on the noticeboard BALTI PIE - and immediately ordered one of them as well. Meat & potato pie: not bad at all with just enough herby seasoning mixed in there to give it some flavour. 7/10 - which is quite good as I wasn't really hungry. Had I been, it would have scored another one, possibly two marks. Balti pie: this is what I've been searching for all these years - big lumps of chicken breast in a proper Balti sauce. The joy of consuming this pie made up for the seasons of awful footie food I'd been subjected to in the past - especially at Hartlepool. Credit where it's due - 10/10. If come May we are promoted, or Bury go down, I'll miss Gigg Lane."

Rod Jones declared: "The coffee on sale near the club car park was hot, pale and uninteresting. Not really a dark roasted brew. I must say as well that there was a nice onion and sausage smell emanating from the catering van." Elsie Price stated: "I took my own food - the prices were terrible. The pies looked awful. My brother had one. The pastry was crisp, to say the least, and the tea tasted like dishwater."

Mansfield:

Peter Davies reflected: "Notts County's catering facilities - but still not great. I had a British Rail-style tea (OK) and a rather crust-dominated sausage roll. I wouldn't have minded, but the guy who served me said the sausage rolls he had left were 'a bit crappy'. But still, I was too hungry to resist. I should have known better. The Meadow Lane away-end food place is also, without doubt, the quickest in the land to shut up shop after half-time. Why the rush?"
