BF tells a few jokes

Wrexham FC 125th Gala Reunion, 1999 (final part)

You can just about see Flynn over the table. He greets everyone by calling them 'fellow athletes'; yep, you guessed it, it's funny Flynn for the next couple of minutes. He reads through the apologies before ending with...a joke. Whilst on an end-of-season holiday in Magalluf, the team had a rule that said: if your mate is drunk, you get him back to his bed. Flynn was standing in hotel reception once when Joey came in rather drunk, with vomit all down the new silk shirt his wife had just bought him. So, Flynn got Joey back to his room. The next morning Joey went up to Flynn and told him he had had to fine Tony Humes a week's wages because he tried to get TH to his bed but he had thrown up all over him. Flynn says: 'We'd better fine him two weeks wages then.' 'Why's that,' says Joey. 'Because he's peed in your pants too,' replied Flynn. Comedy or what? Unfortunately, I don't think I told it as well as Brian did.

The microphone is then passed on to the first guest speaker, John Hughes, a solicitor. He followed the route of Flynn - also telling jokes. Such as: 'We've all got our choice of an Ugly XI, Worst XI and Psychopathic XI - and Joey Jones fits into two of those three.' What I did like about his speech was the way in which he explained how big and famous all the players are to the people of Wrexham and how much young boys would gladly swap positions with any of the players. The way he said this, I think, proved that he was a genuine fan.

Ex- footballer Paul Fletcher is the last to speak. He started off by calling Flynnie a boring little *******. He was only joking of course - they used to play together at Burnley. Then he said that sitting with Flynn and Griffiths was like sitting next to the cast of Last of the Summer Wine. He went on to tell jokes and stories about his career: how he lost his manhood at the Racecourse - he went into a 50/50
challenge with Joey Jones and Joey performed a vasectomy; and how two things stopped Mel Pejic becoming an international - skill and ability. And a joke about Martyn Chalk - this is what happens when cousins marry! Oh, I could go on and on...but I won't. As you can tell, besides the jokes there wasn't anything else really. The video ends how it started, with pictures of various players enjoying a pint, with Men of Harlech as background music.

Overall it's not the most entertaining video I've seen and, costing £15, not really value for money. There's decent camera and sound work, but too many shots of players were shown again and again: for example, Neil Roberts laughing and Spink, Ward and Skinner (as you can tell, it was a while ago) cracking up with laughter.

But, if you want to see a video featuring all the greats of Wrexham Football Club, past and present, this is the video for you. 5/10.
