Mark Williams, red-passion.com's WAP Master, reviews the new official Website and it does not make good reading…
As we are now in the twenty-first century, Wrexham Football Club finally brought itself into the twentieth century with the eagerly anticipated launch of the official Website -
www.wrexhamafc.co.uk - in August.
When you log onto the site the first thing you see is a 'movie', which starts with crops of current players but for some reason contains at least two, if not three clips of Karl Connolly. I think somebody should inform them that he doesn't play for us anymore! The movie clip eventually ends with the Pryce Griffiths stand as the backdrop to a 'Welcome to Wrexham AFC'. The movie is not up to much and you can skip it the next time you visit the site.
Once you get through to the main page you get presented with the latest news article. There is a menu bar on the left and this contains links to eight sections - News, Team, Matches, Club Shop, Supporters, Sponsorship, Community, and The Racecourse. The main page also contains links to five features - Wrexham 2000, Manager's Opinion, Real Audio Reports, the On-line Club Shop, and the Gold Bond Draw results. I completed this review on Sunday, September 24th and found that all of the features are out-of-date.
Clicking on the Wrexham 2000 image opens up a new window with details for the Oldham game on September 9th - so only two weeks out of date! But even then it gives no details about the performers except it will be updated nearer the time! There is a form on that page for your feedback on the Wrexham 2000 initiative but when you try to submit your feedback nothing happens. I spent at least fifteen minutes filling out the form and I wasn't very happy when it didn't work.
Again the manager's opinion page is out-of-date as it welcomes Mansfield Town to The Racecourse, who we played on September 5th! The manager's opinion comes under the news section but it looks as if it has been copied from Brian Flynn's programme notes for the game.
If you thought the Manager's opinion was out-of-date the Real Audio News Reports are worse - they were last updated in August!
If you thought it still couldn't get any worse, Wrexham FC never fail to disappoint do they as the online club shop is, how can I put it, off line! When you follow the link on the menu bar or clicking on Craig Faulconbridge in a home shirt a new window opens with the message:
'Shop will launch soon. We apologise for the delay. Alan Dutton - Web Master.'
This message has now been up for over a month, so their definition of soon is open to debate.
Finally, the Gold Bond results. The page may say that winners will be updated every Friday but I don't think it is though. If it is I must congratulate P Pemberton as according to the Website you have won the Monday draw for the past few weeks - I hope you invest your winnings wisely!
The Club should remove these five features from their front page because they cannot are not being updated and it is quite frankly an embarrassment.
