Mixed Fortunes
This edition I have decided to look at the clubs that got relegated from the First Division last season. They're all having different starts to the season:
PORT VALE: Vale have had a very indifferent start. It must be highly entertaining for the fans - as they have been involved in some extremely open matches. The capture of Mark Bridge-Wilkinson on a free transfer has proved a good one and his midfield partnership with Brammer, now back in favour under Horton, is improving match by match. I think that, unless their away form improves, they are in for a frustrating season.
WALSALL: Have set about an instant return to Division 2 with a fine start. A change of faces upfront has done them the world of good (Robins and Rammell out, Leitau, Byfield and Angell in). With their attacking style, Walsall look especially good at home. Although they are currently top of the league, I don't think they'll quite make automatic promotion in May.
SWINDON: It wasn't that long ago that they were in the Premier League but, with football being the funny game that it is, they are now struggling in the Division 2. Even at home their defence has proved a major concern and their away form is best not mentioned. However, one good thing to come out of Swindon this season is Aussie goal machine Danny Invincible - a natural goalscorer with a fantastic all-round game. He can hold the ball up, has quick feet, and decent pace to boot.
