G’Day sports monkeys and welcome to On The Kop, described to me by one man as 'the bit I use when I’m in the loo' (I hope he meant he read it in the loo and not what I think he meant…)
Harry Redknapp is moaning again after West ham were refused a work permit for Australian international Hayden Foxe. So, Harry attacked the 'crooked system' and, at the same time, Wrexham. He claimed '…Forest got a player on loan and Wrexham have got tuppence-halfpenny players from abroad…' He went on to say: 'The whole system is crooked and it’s all about who you know and who can pull the strings.' Does he suggest Flynn has ‘connections’? If this was the case why didn’t we get Clayton Ince? Answer that one Harry. To call Hector and Carlos 'tuppence-halfpenny players' is also a scandal. The system IS crooked but he is just a bitter old fool…
My Dad recently came to his first Wrexham game in 30 years and saw us scrape past Bristol Rovers. He's not the biggest football fan in the world (he hates overpaid Premiership nancies, especially those that dive). He said a few interesting things at the game which I thought I'd elaborate on.
Quote 1: 'The new stand looks a lot bigger on the outside.' In my opinion this is a valid point; despite its size there are not many seats in it. But why get more seats when we have no fans?
Quote 2: 'A lot’s changed but one thing has stayed the same: the tea still tastes of ****.' Can’t disagree, but I spent my cash on a meat and potato pie which I have to say was a lot nicer than ones I've had at some grounds I’ve been to.
Quote 3: 'That boy is a bit good' (referring to Carlos). He was the most exciting player on the field that day and turned Bristol all over the shop.
Quote 4: 'I think he’s got a bit of Welsh in him.' Can’t see it myself - must have been the surname.'
Quotes 5+6: 'I like him already' (on Sam coming on) and 'The game brightened up when he came on' (talking to my Nan about Hector Sam). I think my Dad was a bit impressed with Hector; he was well received and seemed to be really up for it. I think HS is a top man for his rapport with the fans, always smiling at the Paddock and the Kop and waving at the fans. Great for PR and, in my opinion, a threat on the field.
So, we’re out of the FA Cup and it wasn’t even with a fight; to say I’m disappointed is an understatement. I honestly thought Rotherham were more interested in the game. We now face a thrilling cup run in the LDVVT or something like that. Great. At least it’s half-price entry.
Mr Griffiths has blasted the fans who only come to ‘big games’. My opinion of him has been enhanced by this outburst. He knows the score and is only saying what every true fan feels about all the armchair fans, (remember the Boro attendance?) The club has to listen to suggestions voiced elsewhere in this magazine to discover how to get these fans coming back regularly. I’m not gonna waste my time highlighting them here; there are too many. I hope Ms Toth is paying attention.
Well, I’m gonna sign off now. Take care of yourselves and for dog sakes…
KEEP THE FAITH
