Division Two

What's going on?

Clearouts and transfers

Here's the latest Division 2 news:

Bristol Rovers: After losing Cureton and Roberts who were both so prolific for the Pirates last year, Rovers' forward crisis has now increased with an injury to luckless Martin Cameron who suffered a knock on the ankle against Reading on Boxing Day.

Luton: The Hatters have put a hold on their clearout of players until their injury crisis has ended. They look set to discard a few players, but will keep them as back-up for the next few weeks.

Bournemouth: Their recent good run no doubt owes a lot to 19-year-old Jermaine Defoe; the loan signing from West Ham has struck 11 goals in just 10 starts for the South Coast club including a goal in every game. He is on-loan till the end of season and aims to push for the play-offs with the Cherries.

Colchester: Boss Whitton has pleaded to his strikers McGavin and Duguid for more goals in 2001. The arrival of Barry Conlon from York has not had much of an impact, but Whitton hopes the long break his team has had will help them.

Wigan: Boss Rioch is looking at both Brighton's Zamora and Everton's Jevons in the hope of signing one of them to boost their promotion bid. He could face stiff competition from Burnley and Bristol Rovers for Jevons, who has surprisingly been told he can leave Goodison. Jevons would be available at around £250,000 while Zamora is rated at well over £1m.

Rotherham: Richie Barker is set to sign for the Millers from Rochdale for £60,000, which could rise to £100,000.

Bristol City: City are in the race to try and sign Reading favourite Darren Caskey. Along with Portsmouth, they are chasing a player who netted 23 times from midfield last term. He is also in a free-scoring mood this time around and the playmaker would have a huge impact on any club he joined.

Wycombe: Manager Sanchez is delighted at the new contracts accepted by Jamie Bates and Steve Brown. It means the two important regulars will see out their careers at Adams Park.

Northampton: New loan signing Barry Ferguson could be joined at Sixfields by fellow Scot Kiegan Parker. The Cobblers are set to make a bid for St.Johnstone's highly-rated 18-year-old who has so far netted 10 times in the SPL this season.

Bury: Keeper Kenny has been tipped for the top by Manchester United's head coach Jim Bryan. He has seen Kenny play a number of times and says he will be very surprised if he is not playing in the Premiership by this time next year.

Reading: Alan Pardew has rejected Cheltenham's attempt to take Sammy Igoe on loan. The midfielder is not getting a regular game at the Madejski.

Oldham: Of all the injury crises at the moment, the Latics' is without doubt the worst. Andy Ritchie has told all his pros, including first-year YTS players, to turn up for the next few matches and be prepared to be called upon.

Brentford: Former coach Brian Sparrow wants to end the Bees' search for a manager by returning to the club. He is reported to have had talks with Chairman Noades who recently resigned from the manager's job.

Swindon: Andy King has taken Leeds defender Damien Lynch for a trial with a view to a permanent signing. The 21-year-old is lined up to replace Richard Dryden, on loan from Southampton, who returns to the Dell soon.
