......on the road......

No.18 - Notts County

- Journey there? I travelled by car which took around two hours, taking a shortcut through a park in Nottingham which brought us out next to the ground.
- The town? Nottingham city centre was two miles away from the ground so we went for a walk past the City Ground and Trent Bridge cricket ground and had lunch at a nearby Burger King.
- Ground? Meadow Lane is a large all-seated ground with mostly black seats, which makes the ground look quite dull. It has the second largest away end in the division able to seat 5,400 (next to Wigan’s 8,172!).
- Admission price? £7 for adults and a quid for kids (though hard to get in for a concession).
- The game? Wrexham’s third 1-0 defeat of the season; we were defensively poor and conceded an early goal when McGregor mis-controlled to let Liburd through to score past Dearden. Chalk then missed an open goal from a poor angle after beating the keeper from a defensive error, and Notts County missed a penalty - all in the first half which Notts County dominated. In the second half we came very close on several occasions with Owen's shot blocked, Faulconbridge and Ferguson somehow missing from less than six yards out and Carlos’ shot rebounding off Carey into the net to be disallowed for offside.
- Our fans? About 300 travelled and weren’t very noisy.
- Their fans? Their best attendance of the season – 6,202; but very quiet in such a large ground with not much atmosphere.
- Post-match goings on? A brief walk back to the car past all of the Notts County fans.
- Journey back? We travelled back through Derby and from Stoke onwards were hit with heavy fog and arrived back in over two hours.
