Waistcoats and ties

Wrexham v Barry Town, WPC Final, May 1999 (BBC2 Wales)

The Reds were beaten 2-1 in the second-ever Premier Cup final - and this live outside broadcast was a typically hyped-up BBC effort. Messrs Gould, Aizlewood and Horne were in the makeshift studio - and there were pitch-side interviews with all and sundry - pre-match, mid-match and post-match. In the studio Gould was talking lots of psycho-babble and stressing that the fitness levels of the two sides would be the key determining factor; Aizlewood was getting ribbed by Gould for not wearing a tie; and Horne was being very biased in a powerfully pro-Wrexham way. The highlight of the whole afternoon? The Flynn interview prior to kick-off. He was perched outside the Paddock wearing what looked like his Sunday-best outfit. He'd taken his jacket off and was wearing an incredibly smart brownish waistcoat. He looked like he'd just been to church. Maybe he had - but his prayers certainly didn't work. In Ian Rush's last Wrexham appearance, Barry won by the odd goal in three.
