The A-Z of Life - L is for Liddell...
It's worth devoting the letter 'L' to a legend who died recently, Billy Liddell. As a 15-year-old, playing in Scotland, he was spotted by Matt Busby who was then a half-back with Liverpool. On Busby's recommendation, he joined Liverpool and played from 1946 until 1960. He scored 216 goals in 495 games. He once headed a goal from 20 yards out. He managed to combine league and international football with accountancy. A gentleman both on and off the field, in the league of football legends, Liddell must be high in the table of those players who have graced the field and adorned the game.
