The A-Z of Life - T is
for Tunnicliffe
Plenty of Ts related to football. Tackles, Turnstiles, Transfers, Thrills, Teams and, at the Racecourse, Turf. There are also plenty of Ts when reporting a match. Tremendous when very good. Thrashed when very bad. The Tumult of cup triumphs.
It's T now for Trundle, but my best-remembered T is Tunnicliffe who played for Wrexham between 1948 and 1953. He is the first player I looked up in The Racecourse Robins: From Adams to Youds, and I was not surprised to discover that he was described as 'the idol of the Racecourse'. I saw him as our very own Stanley Matthews.
