James Dean updates us
This is my new personal Football Enjoyment Index (FEI). The FEI measures my enjoyment of football at this stage in time, on a 1-100 index, increasing and decreasing according to events on and off the pitch at the Racecourse. I started at 50. If I reach 100, I am officially in football Nirvana. If I reach 1, I'll be willing to swap places with a Chester City fan.

This covers the period between York away, on 29 October, and Carlisle away in the LDV on the 10 December, inclusive. Starting Score:
58 58
1-0 win at Southend
Not a great win by any means, but after getting through the whole of October without any league wins, three points from any source was a big relief.
+1 59
3-2 win against Bournemouth
Ah, this is it! A brief stutter last month, but back to our best at last! Unbeaten to the end of the season from here, no doubt. (Note - Looking back, this seems even more ridiculously optimistic than it actually was. Oh well.) Two for the performance and win, one for Morrell scoring for the first time in the eight games since his streak (which seems a LONG time ago all of a sudden) came to an end.
+3 62
4-3 win against Leigh RMI
Non-league side away in the LDV Trophy...excuse me while I avert my eyes to avoid being blinded by the flashing 'WARNING' lights. Seriously, was anyone remotely surprised when we went 2-0 down after 36 minutes? Incredibly, though, we managed a superb comeback, keeping us on two separate roads to Cardiff...
+1 63
2-0 loss to Darlington
...for all of four days. -1 for losing 2-0 to sodding Darlington. -2 for going out in the first round for the THIRD consecutive time! -2 for the complete lack of anything even approaching commitment from most of the team. And -1 for getting taken apart by Neil bloody Wainwright. This replaced Lincoln as the nadir of my dozen or so years supporting Wrexham, and had me seriously considering giving up. Although with the results we've been getting whenever I make it back from uni to see the lads, that would probably be welcomed by many people.
-6 57
3-0 away win to Bristol Rovers
After the debacle against Darlington, I gave up on the idea of making the Exeter-Bristol trip to see what I was convinced would be another one-sided embarrassment of a match.
Well, I was half right! I nearly kicked myself for missing this match (Nearly as in 'tried but missed" - I'd make a Chester striker joke here, if I hadn't just seen the Conference table). Great to see a double from Morrell, and reports from friends say that we were 'fantastic', 'amazing', 'incredible', 'unbelievable', 'superb', 'wonderful', and about 97 other superlatives. Not that they're gloating, obviously. Excuse me while I go and fume.
+3 60
0-0 draw with Hull
The most exciting 0-0 draw I've ever witnessed, it was also a wonderful, gritty and talented performance against a team I'm convinced will be top-six at the end of the season. Whitfield carried on his run of great form, collecting his second clean sheet in a week, and if their keeper hadn't had a fantastic game as well, we could've won the game easily. No complaints though, best performance in any game I've been to since I went back to uni.
+1 61
2nd round of the FA Cup
Spot the odd one out...Cardiff, Chester, Shrewsbury, Exeter, Wrexham. Dammit!
-2 59
FA Cup Third Round Draw
Shrewsbury get Everton, Darlington get a non-league team who we could surely have beaten to advance to the fourth round - and if Sky have long enough memories to remember Wrexham and Farnborough's simultaneous giant-killing a decade or so ago, then we could even have been on TV! Admittedly, given our record live on Sky, it would probably have been the kiss of death anyway...
-2 57
2-0 loss to Carlisle -2
Noooooooooooooooooooo...I REALLY shouldn't care about the LDV, but it's a lot easier not to care about it when you're still in the FA Cup! Looks like our only hope of getting to Cardiff is now in the play-offs, and I'm hoping we won't need them...optimistic as that is.
-2 55
Darren Ferguson
I'm having visions of DF post- Middlesboro' again...committed, interested, and in control of his temperament. In addition to his never-doubted skill, that makes him a giant plus for the team once again, after last season's poor campaign for Sir Alex's son.
+1 56
Paul Whitfield
Practically a one-man advertisement for the League of Wales, Whitfield shows what the experience of playing there regularly on loan can do for a goalkeeper. While I'm a fan of Kristian Rogers, and liked David Walsh as well, Paul looks far more confident in goal than either of them ever have, and is rapidly becoming one of the leading contenders for Player of the Season.

On that note, we end the FEI for now, and the final total so far is...
