Rochdale |
By Alun Thomas Front cover? The Dale no.2 looking up and about to make a long-range pass. Value for money? £2 for 48 pages - OK. Decent content? All the usual stuff, including four pages on Wrexham. Very varied, but a lot of adverts in the middle. Attractive design? Nice use of colour; pleasant overall effect. Best article? Page 45 - a strange item, whereby Dale supporters offer there many and varied recollections of Wrexham, and past encounters. Some curious anecdotes are published. Overall? Slightly above average. |
Steve Price: 'The food at Rochdale wasn't that bad. The only thing is - they were only selling meat and potato pies (£1.50) when I got to the food bar. The football made up for this.' Elsie Price: 'The Spotland catering was quite unhygenic. I bought a tea. The tea-bag was in the cup and you helped yourself to milk and sugar from a dirty table with the teaspoons in a jar of water! The milk was in an uncovered jug: do they not use pasteurised milk? Or do Rochdale folk only buy sterilised milk? It spoiled my day.' Elsie Price: 'After many-years gap, I went to Rochdale in search of the Ladies loos I couldn't find on my last visit! Well, I found them - all I can say is basic and not very clean, smelly even. Back at the Racecourse - sensation! Blue toilet paper! Has Mr Guterman brought a job-lot with him? Well, use it at home please. I'll bring my own.' |
Carlisle |
By Peter Davies Front cover? Two Carlisle players - the no.27 and the no.19. Value for money? £2 for 40 pages - not fantastic. Decent content? Basic, not very imaginative. Attractive design? Neat without being remarkably appealing. Best article? The CUFC Chaplain, Peter Bye, offers his words of spiritual wisdom (p.15). Nice to see the 'forgotten' officials of a football club being given a platform. Overall? Below average - like their team. |

Leigh RMI |
By Peter Davies Front cover? 'The Railwaymen' emblazoned over a red-and-white striped torso. Value for money? £2 for 32 pages - poor. Decent content? Predictable pieces by the manager, and about the visitors, Conference news. Attractive design? Nice red and white effect, but apart from that, fairly standard. Best article? Not so much an article as a news item - the Leigh RMI 'Sponsor-a-Goal' update. Original idea. Overall? Poor non-league. |
