Crushing at the Lido

This is how one online Afan Lido fan viewed the recent Welsh Premier Cup defeat to the Dragons

A big disappointment all round. Firstly because I was stuck behind the goal pretending to be some kind of steward (but looking very fetching in day-glo yellow) and secondly because Lido never quite got started and then rolled over after Wrexham got a luckyish break for their first goal.

Lido were the better team for 90 seconds or so, forcing a corner and having a shot blocked, but then came the inevitable Wrexham push and their extra bit of class carved out several chances before a corner on 10-12 mins was flicked on/deflected and deceived Lido captain Paul Evans, the ball bouncing off his derrière and into the goal, possibly with a helping hand from Morrell (looking lethally sharp).

As I say, we crumbled a bit at that point and allowed the Wrexham midfield all the space they wanted to put pressure on our defence. With class like Sam, Edwards, Ferguson and Morrell, it told and the match was over by 30 minutes.

No complaints except to say that Lido can do much better. I think that the poor recent home form and a desire to perform in front of the home faithful was as much a factor as Wrexham's talent, though any WP team would have been stretched on the night.

Lido did manage plenty of possession in the opposition half, but all too often it ended with Kevin Bartley (ran his socks off again - a hell of a signing) being forced wide by Gog defenders because of lack of support from a midfield that had just too much to cope with in support of our defence.

Our best efforts were a Phil Holmes header mid-way through the second half and a couple of Bartley shots that he got off before Carey bundled him into touch.

All in all, slightly flattering for Wrexham, but no real complaints. A decent Wrexham turnout, considering the distance and hour. Only Cwmbran have brought more away support this season - crazy but true!
