Five-a-side Spectacular!

Jez Strong, Managing Director of Mushroom Sports, reports on a soon-to-be-staged footie festival...

Welcome to 'The Men's Health Soccer 5s supported by The Bobby Moore Fund'.

I am now delighted to announce details of what I hope will become the premier five-a-side soccer event in the UK. We are very privileged to have gained the backing of The Bobby Moore Fund, raising money for

Bowel Cancer Research and this year will see the introduction of The Bobby Moore Trophy for the tournament winners. We are still a couple of weeks away from having the event literature and launching to the public, but as supporters of the event I am giving you prior warning to ensure you get the venue of your choice. I really hope that the majority of you will enter the event and with the 2002 Champions, MDU, confident
of repeat success, it will be up to one of you to go out and stop them! (Sorry MDU!)

The details for this year's event are as follows:

About your squad: In total, you can use up to eight players through out the tournament, although there will obviously be just five playing at any one time. Players must be age 16 and over on the day of the event and must not be professionally registered. Contravention of any of these rules could lead to disqualification.

Entry Fee: £50 - of which a minimum of £15 will go straight to The Bobby Moore Fund - a fantastic cause, close to all our own hearts!

Where & When: Regional heats will be played at 24 venues, arranged by Powerleague, across the UK on Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th June 2003. National Finals will be on Saturday 21st June at Powerleague venue to be confirmed.

(NB. We already have a Premiership ground and Sky TV lined up for 2004, but 2003 dates could be subject to change if Stamford Bridge say yes to staging this year's final).

The participating venues are as follows:

Powerleague Venues: Barnet, Birmingham, Catford, Croydon, Edinburgh, Fairlop (North East London), Gateshead, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Mill Hill, Newham, Norbury, Nottingham, Peterborough, Sheffield, Slough, Stockport, Stoke, Tottenham.

Non Powerleague Venues: Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Portsmouth.

How it Works:

What do you do now?

If you want to be certain of getting your first-choice venue, why not print out your team name along with captains name, address and email and return with a cheque now. Also include your choice of venue (with a second choice, just in case). You can also include squad members and their email details if you know them yet - if not you can let me know nearer the time.

Cheques should be payable to:
Mushroom Sports and sent to:

Jez Strong, Mushroom Sports, Maple Cottage, 127 White Lion Road, Little Chalfont, Bucks, HP7 9JY.

If you want to be doubly sure, email your details and I will allocate a place - but make sure you send the cheque as well!

Alternatively, send me your address and I will forward an entry form as soon as I have them. There will also be an online payment facility on the Men's Health website as of the 1st April.

Any questions, don't hesitate to shout and I hope to see you all in June.

All the best and good luck
