Wrexham Evening Leader

Looking to the future

Martin FoyleMARTIN FOYLE today admitted that Wrexham's younger players deserve their opportunity.

Manager Brian Little plans changes for tomorrow's match against Notts County at The Racecourse, meaning a number of senior players could miss out.

That opens the door for the likes of Shaun Pejic, Mike Williams and Wes Baynes, and three returning loan players.

Midfielders Conall Murtagh and Levi Mackin had cut short their stays with Blue Square Premier division side Droylsden, whose relegation has been confirmed, while goalkeeper Michael Jones has returned following his temporary stint with Conference North outfit Hinckley.

And first team coach Foyle said the younger element, hoping to be involved in the final 16, are back in contention with Little looking to the future.

"The young ones deserve their chance. Their attitude has been spot on,"
said Foyle. "There will be a few changes. We are doing that because we feel it is right.

"The others have had their chance and not really delivered. No-one can complain, that is an honest assessment.

"And the younger players are good enough anyway. We are looking at next year and want to see how they cope.

"You say to the younger element, 'if you are in the side, stay in the side,' as there are four games left.

"We have been trying different things, and although nothing is concrete, changes were inevitable."

Little has announced a major rebuilding plan for Wrexham who only have a slim chance of avoiding the drop following recent poor results.

Although on-loan strikers Stuart Nicholson and Rob Duffy have returned to their parent clubs, and midfielder Danny Sonner, contracted until the end of the season, is struggling with an achilles' problem and is unlikely to play again this season, Foyle feels fans may not have yet seen the last of Drewe Broughton, Paul Hall and Jeff Whitley.

"We just want to look at one or two things for next season but Drewe could still be involved before his deal is up. That is not a dead one,"
added Foyle.

"Paul could still be involved before the end of the season and Jeff trained yesterday, but losing Danny because of his injury was a big blow because he has been influential."

Wrexham could be relegated tomorrow if Dagenham and Redbridge – nine points ahead of the Reds – get a better result at Rotherham.

But Little has not thrown in the towel until it is mathematically
certain: "We are still not out of this league yet and are still trying to win four games – yet everyone seems to be taking it for granted we are down," he said.

"I am not saying we will stay up, but we will try and win on Saturday and see where it takes us."

One player unlikely to be involved is Mark Jones, who has told Little he won't be re-signing for the club.
