Wrexham FC's co-owners take the blame

WREXHAM FC'S co-owners have apologised to fans and admitted "the buck has to stop at the top" after the club was relegated from the Football League.

In a joint statement Nev Dickens and Geoff Moss said "vitriol and threats" were not the way forward and called for everyone associated with the club to pull together and prepare for life in the Blue Square Premier.

The club's 87-year stay in the Football League was brought to an end on Tuesday night when Brian Little's men were beaten 2-0 at Hereford.

The joint statement reads: "Obviously everyone here at the football club – directors, staff, manager, and players alike – are all upset and disappointed that we have been relegated.

"We thank all our fans who have stuck by us during this difficult season, as the level of support has been tremendous both home and away bearing in mind our position.

"Brian Little has already made known some of his plans regarding next season's playing squad and we shall be working closely with Brian over the coming weeks to ensure that we have a squad capable of bouncing straight back.

"The fans have to have someone to blame, the buck has to stop at the top and we have to accept full responsibility for our demise, for which we apologise.

"However, vitriol and threats are not the way forward, we tried to do our best but at the end of the day it wasn't good enough. We now have to roll our sleeves up and prepare in the best possible manner for next season.

"We shall be reassessing everything to see what we can do to help the club go forward and no further statements will be made until we have had time to do just that."
