Little keeping quiet on his big decisions

WREXHAM manager Brian Little is unlikely to
make any further player announcements until after Saturday’s last match of the
season at Lincoln City.
The Dragons boss last week told 14 players they were not part of his plans to
rebuild the squad in preparation for the new territory of the Blue Square
Premier League.
But after fielding a young and inexperienced side in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at
the hands of Accrington Stanley, he admitted the jury was still out in respect
of some of those involved.
“First and foremost we still have one game to play this coming Saturday, which
takes precedence,” he said.
“But the Accrington game proved to be a long, hard day’s work for the lads. Some
are under contract and one or two will be out of contract and we wanted to see
if they have the potential to be part of what we are aiming to do next season.
“In some cases there is still something to prove and, hard though it is, even
young players have to understand that we are in a tough business, especially so
when you keep losing matches.”
Little conceded that Wrexham had made life difficult for themselves by once
again conceding an early goal that dented any confidence.
“What we needed to see was that they would not be affected by the mistake, but
that was not the case and we were poor for some time afterwards,” he added.
“The same players had done really well against Notts County the previous week,
though it has to be said County missed a couple of early chances and we
benefited from that.
“We had a little period of better play in the second half, but another mistake
caused heads to drop again.”
Little is likely to stick with a largely unchanged squad at Sincil Bank, having
told five players not to come in this week.
Richard Hope, Michael Proctor, Anthony Williams, Sam Aiston and Silvio Spann are
the contracted players deemed surplus to requirements by the Racecourse boss.
“I’ve told them to go away and think about their futures,” he said.
“Most of them could do a job elsewhere, but collectively it hasn’t worked out
for them here and it may be a move will see some or all of them go on and do
well.
“Until that time they remain under contract with Wrexham so I’ve also told them
that if they are still here next season they will have to return with a very
different mentality.
“As for new faces, I know supporters are anxious to learn more about our plans
and I can assure them we are not sitting on our hands. There is plenty happening
behind the scenes and we’ll go into detail when we have something concrete to
say.”
With one of two of Saturday’s side nursing minor knocks yesterday, the only
positive news from Colliers Park was that defender Carl Tremarco is back in
training after missing the last nine matches through injury.
